Balance Power Wins Appeal On Wolverhampton West 50MW Battery Storage Project
- Independent energy developer, Balance Power secures planning approval on 50MW battery storage project in Wolverhampton West
- Project will future proof the region’s security of supply, providing stability and flexibility to the grid
- The project will begin construction in early 2023 and could power up to 11,000 homes
Balance Power today announces it has won an appeal on a 50MW battery storage project in Wolverhampton West, on the edge of South Staffordshire.
The battery storage project was approved on appeal after an inspector found that the environmental benefits provided special circumstances for being located in the Green Belt, and directly align with national efforts to decarbonise the UK’s energy system.
Balance Power has been successfully developing many types of energy projects since 2017, exploring all viable technology options to deliver the right solution for the land, and the greatest impact for the planet. This appeal win demonstrates the company’s diligence when selecting sites and maintains Balance Power’s strong track record on planning applications, with a planning success rate of 94%.
Balance Power has now taken 27 energy projects through to planning consent, delivering 312MW of capacity. In the year to date, 144MW have been consented and sold, and a further 750MW of projects with secured grid connections are under development nationwide.
The Wolves West appeal is one of three planning appeals that Balance Power has won in recent weeks, with two gas peaking projects also granted in Sudbury and Goring, delivering an additional 14MW of capacity.
